Choose the in-session import for Claude settings or preview the repository helper for selected Claude Code or Codex assets.

## In-app Claude import

In an existing RightNow session, open the import picker:

**Text**

```text
/import-claude
```

The picker copies the Claude Code permissions, environment variables, MCP servers, and hooks you select into `~/.rightnow/config.toml` or the project's `.rightnow/config.toml`; hooks go to `hooks/imported-from-claude.json`.

When an import or dismissal saves `[claude_compat] imported = true`, runtime fallback loaders stop reading Claude settings, `~/.claude.json`, and `.mcp.json`. Cancelling the picker only closes it. The picker can also save skill and rule directory entries under `[paths]`; review their discovery separately.

## Build from source

The helper commands below run from a RightNow Agent source checkout.

### Repository migration helper

This page covers the repository-provided Windows PowerShell helper for copying selected Claude Code or Codex assets into RightNow Agent. Run the repository script from its checkout after reviewing the preview; the helper does not modify the source directories.

Run these commands from the RightNow Agent repository root in Windows PowerShell. With `-WithMcp`, `config/rightnow.toml` must be available to seed a missing destination `config.toml`.

1. Preview the migration.

 **PowerShell**

 ```powershell
 .\migrate-to-rightnow.ps1 -DryRun
 ```

 Dry run: no directories or files will be created or changed. For eligible paths, this preview reports missing destinations as `WOULD COPY` and existing destinations as `SKIP existing`.
2. After reviewing the preview, apply the migration.

 **PowerShell**

 ```powershell
 .\migrate-to-rightnow.ps1
 ```

 For eligible paths, the helper creates destination directories as needed and reports `COPIED` for new files. Existing destinations are skipped unless `-Force` is supplied.

**Migration helper parameters**

| Parameter | Behavior |
| --- | --- |
| -From auto\|claude\|codex | Selects the source. Default: auto, which picks each tool found in %USERPROFILE%. |
| -RightNowHome <path> | Selects the destination. Default: %USERPROFILE%\\.rightnow. |
| -WithMcp | Opts in to MCP import. |
| -DryRun | Makes no destination file or directory changes. |
| -Force | Permits replacement of destination collisions. |

Without `-Force`, existing asset files are skipped. With `-WithMcp`, new MCP server names merge into `config.toml`; `-Force` permits replacing conflicting server definitions.

Destination paths must remain inside the selected RightNow home, and existing reparse points in that path are refused. The helper exits 1 when it reports a problem.

### What is copied and what loads

**What is copied and what loads**

| Copied into the RightNow home | Loading rule |
| --- | --- |
| skills/ from .claude/skills/ | Requires machine-wide skill discovery: \[skills\] machine\_wide = true, or an unset value with either vendor skills setting enabled. |
| commands/ from .claude/commands/, .codex/prompts/ | Requires machine-wide skill discovery: \[skills\] machine\_wide = true, or an unset value with either vendor skills setting enabled. |
| agents/ from .claude/agents/ | Yes, as user agents. |
| rules/ from .claude/rules/ | Top-level .md files, as rules. |
| rules/CLAUDE.md, rules/AGENTS.md, rules/AGENTS.override.md from .claude/CLAUDE.md, .codex/AGENTS.md, .codex/AGENTS.override.md | Yes, as rules. The override file does not replace AGENTS.md. |

Sources are read from `%USERPROFILE%` and copied as they are, without conversion. Sessions, transcripts, caches, authentication state, and general application settings are not included.

### MCP import

> **Warning: Review imported MCP servers**
>
> MCP definitions are imported only with `-WithMcp`. Review every imported command, argument, environment variable, URL, and header before launching.

Sources: the top-level `mcpServers` in `%USERPROFILE%\.claude.json` (unsupported fields are skipped with a note; direct runtime loading requires `[compat.claude] mcps = true` and `[claude_compat] imported` unset or false, see [MCP Servers](https://www.rightnowai.co/docs/mcp#importing-configuration)) and the `[mcp_servers.*]` tables in `%USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml`, copied as written.

After migration, inspect the summary and destination files, configure credentials for your selected provider, and launch with `rightnow`.
